The announcement of the free games has dampened the anticipation of the new gaming year for some subscribers. Only one title is convincing on PS Plus in January 2025.

Satisfying everyone is forwith the monthly free games fromnot possible. Even if there were three AAA games for free, it wouldn't suit every subscriber's taste. Nevertheless, it is also easy to recognize when the monthly selection really does not receive much attention. Right at the start of the year, the three titles for January 2025 provide the perfect example - and a lot of fan anger.

This is how the PS Plus free games arrive for January 2025

The big disappointment:The “biggest” game in the upcoming PS Plus content is also the most criticized. Suicide Squad stands for what die-hards are passionate about-Fans have been bothering for a long time:Accordingly, numerous users had, among other thingsRedditthe announcement was already feared. Now that they were right with their prediction, there is a hail of discontent:

  • “They’re really giving us a dead live service game at the start of 2025 that nobody wants.”– u/DangassDanger
  • “I thought Squad would end up here. It costs less than a packet of chips.”– u/shadowlarvitar
  • “I should just refuse to add Suicide Squad to my library. It doesn't cost me anything, but I don't want to support them [Rocksteady Studios] after what they've done to the Arkham universe."– u/A-Centrifugal-Force

For disappointed fans like u/TopRaise7 it is clear that there is “no rush to subscribe” in the new year. Even Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered cannot cause a storm of celebration. The original PS3 game from 2010 enjoys a good reputation, but some of the comments fail because it was released 14 years ago. Here too, as with Suicide Squad, there is criticism that the price is too cheap. The desire for more value for the monthly subscription payment will remain in 2025

The bright spot:At 12 years old, The Stanley Parable is already getting on in years, but at least the slightly younger Ultra Deluxe Edition is still fun to watch. The interactive story is still the secret winner in the monthly selection - which, according to fans, the indie pearl still couldn't save.

PS Plus does not live up to expectations from previous years

Another reason that causes dissatisfaction among subscribers: In previous years, January always delivered top-class free games. So it's no wonder that so many people were prepared for the usual pleasant New Year's gift. However, among Suicide Squad, Evil West and The Stanley Parable, there is no similarly well-known work as these former January games:

  • 2019: Uncharted Collection
  • 2020: Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • 2021: Persona 5 Striker
  • 2022: Jedi Fallen Order
  • 2023: Plague Tale Requiem

With this overall disappointing start to the year for fans, Sony is threatening to continue its own negative trend.
