The director of the Harry Potter films thinks the HBO series is a spectacular idea - because it can do something that was missing in the films

The director of the original Harry Potter films emphasizes the virtues of a series.

You'll have to wait a while until Harry Potter waves his wand in a new "film adaptation". The HBO series is scheduled to appear in 2027 at the earliest. Until then, you'll have to make do with the film series.

The director of two of the films, Chris Columbus, was asked in an interview what he actually thought of the upcoming series and his answer was extremely positive.

Harry Potter director sees the advantages of a series adaptation

Chris Columbus directed and produced the film adaptations of "The Sorcerer's Stone" and "The Chamber of Secrets" and was also responsible for producing "The Prisoner of Azkaban."

ThePeoplemagazine took advantage of the exclusive Nosferatu film premiere in Los Angeles to ask Columbus his thoughts on the upcoming HBO series.

He replied that he thought it was a "spectacular idea" because there are always limitations with films. What he means by this is very simple: With book adaptations, it is always difficult to incorporate as many details from the original work as possible into the very limited running time.

He recapitulates that both films only had about two hours and 40 minutes to tell the plot of a complete novel.

This is exactly where Columbus sees the big advantage of the series:

I think the fact that they have the time to produce [multiple] episodes for each book is fantastic. You can get everything in the series that we didn't get a chance to... all of that. Great scenes that we just couldn't put in the movies.

He also added that he was curious about what we would see in the series. Then he'll have to wait a while. Filming is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2025 at the Warner Bros. Studio Leavesden in Watford, UK near London.

It is not yet known who will take on the roles of the popular main characters, but there will probably be news soon.

Now the question is: Which scenes from the books did you miss in the films? Do you think they'll end up in the series now?
