News - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands: Possible sequel canceled according to new report

While Borderlands 4 is on the way, a possible sequel to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is apparently far less well-off. According to a new report, the previously unannounced game has now been canceled.

In March 2022, Gearbox released Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, a spin-off to the successful Borderlands series. This sub-series had been rather quiet since then; a sequel had never been officially announced - and yet one was apparently in the works, at least until now. According to a new report, the project has unfortunately been canceled in the meantime.

The Dungeons & Dragons-inspired shooter was originally intended to be a DLC for Borderlands 2, but ultimately decided to release the project as a standalone game. The title was a surprise success, which is why Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford is promising at least more content related to Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. A sequel was therefore expected by many gamers.

Now the usually well-connected colleagues report on itMP1 pcciting an inside source that Tiny Tina's Wonderlands 2 was actually in the works, but has since been scrapped. As the site points out, some updates from employees at Lost Boys Interactive, a subsidiary studio of Gearbox that worked on the first part, would underline this.

For example, artist Bemin Jackson listed the game as "unreleased" on his ArtStation profile. That doesn't mean it's been hired, but there is also a "discontinued, unannounced project" on another employee's LinkedIn profile.

Lost Boys Interactive was also hit by layoffs earlier in 2024, with more following its purchase by Take-Two Interactive. An unannounced sequel to such a spin-off is generally considered a project that is easy to discontinue in order to save costs. It remains to be seen whether there will ever be an official statement or confirmation on the subject.
