This is how the GameStar editorial team really works: 10 things you didn't know about us

There are questions that require an answer. We deliver them to you.

In the GameStar editorial team, we have been indulging in a daily ritual for years. No, that doesn't mean fanning Heiko with palms - that's not a ritual, but rather an order of business.

Rather, it's about the really important questions in this world.Every afternoon in our final team meeting, one of these questions is put up for discussion and everyone is allowed to give their opinion. The result of these either/or questions is recorded in writing. Believe us: the results regularly shock us too!

We are now sitting on a pool of over 15 Word pages full of interesting and often explosive questions and answers. Today it's finally time to share some of them with you!

Gamepad or mouse & keyboard?

Let's start with something gaming-related: the choice of input device. GameStar has now also opened up to PlayStation, Xbox and the Nintendo Switch. But our roots lie in the good old PC. So it makes sense that everyone in our editorial team plays with a mouse and keyboard.

Incorrect! Five of the 13 people in attendance expressed their love for the gamepad. But hey, at least the rodent and the keyboard still win with eight votes. That softens the shock a little.

Nutella with or without butter?

The ancient Greeks were already discussing this question in Athens: Should there be a layer of butter between the Nutella and the slice of bread or not?

The result is tighter than many of you would like. Four people from our team like to mix Nutella with butter. Five colleagues turned away in disgust at this realization because they are Nutella purists.

Battlefield oder Call of Duty?

One of the classic controversial questions among game fans, more precisely among virtuosos of the shooter genre.Do you prefer to play on the maps of Battlefield or Call of Duty?we asked our team. The result was a clear victory for the EA/Dice brand with nine votes to three.

But: This survey took place in 2021, possibly before the release of the disgraced Battlefield 2042. It is quite possible that the result would be different today.

Turn-based or real-time strategy?

We also have the right question ready for the strategy fans among you: We wanted to know from our boys and girls whether they prefer to fight their battles in real time or turn-based.

The victory here could hardly have been clearer: the round-robin strategy received eleven votes, while the real-time strategy only received a meager two votes. We are sure that there are a lot of passionate opinions in your community, especially on this voting question!

Goulash with pasta or potatoes?

Phew, now we're getting a lot of steam. Beautiful goulash braised for hours over a low flame. Mmm, delicious! But what to serve with it: pasta or potatoes?

At least in the GameStar team, this question did not cause any discussion. Ten of us ordered pasta, only two preferred potatoes. Or as the hobbit Samwise Gamgee used to say:Potatoes! You boil them, pound them, put them in the soup.

Well, what is missing from his list? That's right, goulash! So good Sam knows what's appropriate.

Skyrim oder Morrowind?

The discussion about this question in our team was like a special session of the Bundestag on the question of which party was the worst. That means: It was hot. On one side, five nostalgics who shouted about the beautiful quicksilver water in Morrowind. The opposing side, also consisting of five heads, screamedDragons! Drrraaaaccchhheeenn!!!back.

So in the end it's a tie. Kind of unsatisfactory, isn't it? Rumor has it that there were actually not ten, but 20 team members present that day, and the remaining ten simply played the already unattainable Oblivion instead of arguing, hehe.

Podcast

For Géraldine, Oblivion is the best - no, not RPG, but the best game ever released. We finally have to talk about this in detail - unfortunately also for a sad reason.

Hawaiian pizza: crime or delicacy?

There was also another tie when it came to the question of whether pineapple slices belong on a pizza. Sorry, the impartial author of these lines has to take a quick pause. Ergh. Örks.

Okay, it's working somewhat again. Five people on our team had sense and firmly rejected such a culinary crime. Five other people didn't even feel ashamed when they voted for the pineapple. Oh, it's coming up again...quickly onto the next topic...

Bulbasaur, Squirtle or Charmander?

Hardly any question in the early 2000s caused more broken friendships and fights during the big break. In our editorial office, too, one or two couples were lying on the floor and pulling each other's hair until dad Heiko intervened - he never played Pokémon anyway.

In the end, the result was similar to the conclusion in the schoolyard at the time: Hardly anyone wants Bulbasaur (two votes) and Squirtle is, as always, a glorious second (four votes), but Charmander is and remains simply the king (seven votes).

Fallout Vault or Space Colony?

The world is ending! So, well, at some point. Maybe sooner, maybe later, but the fact is: When the time comes, we all want to be as safe as possible in a refuge somewhere. The appropriate question in our editorial team was: Would we rather defy the apocalypse in a fallout vault or by escaping to a space colony?

In this case, the interstellar village prevailed with a whopping 11 votes to 3 - and yes, that was before Starfield. In our team, science fiction is as popular as schnitzel after work. The result is therefore not surprising. We're excited to see what our survival artists do when the Reapers from Mass Effect arrive!

Unroll toilet paper forwards or backwards?

We saved the most important question of all for last. You notice: In our team we don't shy away from any topic, no matter how sensitive. And we want to get you on board, because the topic affects us all: How do you hang the toilet paper roll? So that the leaves roll forward, towards you - or would you rather do it the other way around, so that the roll faces away from you?

Everyone in our team voted forward - except for one person, who is even mentioned by name in our results document. But we won't do that now because we don't want you to lose all respect for this great person. Nobody is perfect!

And don't worry:You can also make a Christmas tradition out of this if you like.We have enough material. Here's a little sneak peek:

So, are you shocked now? Do you no longer recognize the GameStar editorial team you have loved over the years? Or are you even surprised at how well you get along with us because you almost always voted like the majority?

You know what? Now it's your turn! Let us know in the comments what your opinions are on the questions above. We are excited and... maybe a little nervous.
