Steam is currently giving you a brutal shooter whose initial release had to be indexed

Dark Sector was released in 2008 - but not initially in Germany.

The end of November is now traditionally the time of Black Week or Friday offers. In addition to huge discounts, some providers even give out complete gifts. You can currently find such a gift on Steam, with which you can catch up on a shooter from 2008.

  • Spiel:
  • Offer price:0 euros instead of 9.99 euros (100% discount)
  • Offer valid until:November 30th at 6 p.m. German time

So you don't have much time left to grab the free game on Steam and you should have done so by Saturday at the latest if you are interested in the title.

Dark Sector only appeared later in Germany - in a cut version

  • Genre:Third-Person-Shooter
  • Systems:PS3, Xbox 360, PC
  • Release:2008 (console versions), 2009 (PC)
  • Metacritic cut: 72(Xbox 360-Version)

That's what it's about:In Dark Sector you embody special agent Hayden Tenno, who becomes infected with a dangerous virus called “technocyte”. However, this doesn't kill him, but causes a sword boomerang to grow out of his arm, which Tenno can now use against his opponents.

Equipped in this way, you fight your way through various levels in classic third-person shooter style, use your weapon to solve a few simple logic puzzles and compete against boss opponents.

In Germany, Dark Sector was initially not given an age rating due to the high level of violence and was not officially released in this country; the uncut version ended up on the index a short time later.

After Atari took over the rights to the game in 2009, a censored version of the game was released, which was given an age rating of 18 years and over by the USK. This version will be given away on Steam until November 30, 2024.

There was always speculation about a sequel to the game, but it never saw the light of day. Instead, developer Digital Extremes implemented the third Oersin shooter Warframe in 2013, which is based closely on the original concept of Dark Sector and is therefore considered a spiritual successor.
