I hope for three things above all from FromSoftware games: a well-thought-out game world with lots of secrets, a tight level of difficulty and a consistently stable frame rate of 60 fps to be able to cope with all challenges.
Has two of the points mentionedSo far it has been fulfilled on the PS5, but the refresh rate is lagging in all graphics modesminced meat
Now the PS5 Pro is here and of course Elden Ring was the first title I started the download for. After riding a few meters on my spectral steed, I quickly realized that even in performance mode it wasn't enough to achieve a consistent 60 fps.
That's annoying, but I already have an idea how it could work -Only FromSoftware has to go along with my suggestion.
This is how Elden Ring runs on the PS5 Pro
Depending on the graphics mode, Elden Ring records 10 to 35 percent higher fps values via the patch-free Game Boost on the PS5 Pro compared to the base model. This is what I found out in my big PS5 Pro test:
The performance mode recorded the smallest increase, with only 10 to 15 percent more frames. Here you can see a few sequences from the -See DLC on PS5 Pro:
But why is it that Elden Ring doesn't consistently reach 60 fps?
In my test, I already mentioned in my interim conclusion about Game Boost that the additional power of the PS5 Pro does not necessarily translate into significantly more fps.
This is because many current games - including Elden Ring - use dynamic resolution scaling.
The render resolution is constantly adjusted based on the respective game scene in order to find a good balance between high image sharpness and smooth frame rates.
That's exactly the case with Elden Ring and I was surprised by my own counts that the title jumped to almost 4K in performance mode instead of pumping out more frames from the engine.
My impression is also confirmed once again by the Youtuber BrazilPixel, who used a special algorithm to count the resolution of the game:

Elden Ring now largely runs at around 1944p in performance mode, previously it was an average of 1652p.
When I looked closely, I noticed the small sharpness boost, but honestly:The difference is so minimal that I could have done without it, and the game was never blurry anyway. That's why I think it's a shame that the additional performance goes into the resolution instead of the frame rate.

Would you play Elden Ring again if the additional performance of the PS5 Pro provided more fps?
