Arbok currently seems to be the ex-killer of Mewtwo. This requires other cards to support it.

Shortly after the release ofThe first meta has established itself in PvP battles against other players. That's why cards like are currently dominating,Pikachu-exor justDeath-exthe matches and are grating on the nerves of the community, which has already thought of strategies to combat it.

This isn't an oversight or a single stroke of luck, but rather a strategy designed to actively counter Mewtwo-ex decks.Thread creator D33p_Learning callsthe Arbok deckeven “Mewtwo Meta Slayer” and claims to have never lost against Mewtwo-ex.

Why do Arbok decks counter Mewtwo-ex?

Death-Strategie:Mewtwo-ex decks generally need some time to build up their field. They are fromGuardevoirdependent, which must first be developed twice as a phase 2 card. Using the abilityPsyshadowGardevoir can attach a Psychic Energy to its active Psychic Pokémon once per turn.

Death-exBenefits immensely from this ability as it gives it its powerful attackPsycho drivecan be used for 150 points of damage each round, although it actually has to discard two Psychic Energy after the attack.

Arbok counter strategy: Arbokadds with his only attackPressAdds 60 (or 80 to Psychic-type Pokémon) damage. While the damage is modest, Arbok's attack has the additional effect of preventing the defending Pokémon from retreating from the active position after the attack.

This alone isn't particularly strong, but most Arbok decks use supporting cards likeTaubossthat with his abilityDrift awayYou can send your opponent's active Pokémon to the bench once per turn.

This ability is particularly painful for Mewtwo-ex decks because, ideally, you get the weaker Pokémon that can't defend themselves well into the active position and use Harassment to trap them there so that Mewtwo-ex doesn't even come to fruition Train is coming.

How do Arbok decks perform?

Basically, the strategy of Arbok decks is solid and hurts Psychic-types in particular. Arbok works particularly well against Mewtwo-ex, which is currently very popular. However, Arbok definitely has its problems against other decks like Pikachu-ex and is primarily dependent on a good hand at the start of the fight. At least that's what the user thinksLowsley, who has lost more than half of all matches with Arbok.

Another good point in favor of Arbok decks is the low barrier to entry. If you are missing item cards, you can easily buy them in the in-game shop without having to spend real money. The cards Arbok and Tauboss and their pre-developments are also not particularly rare, in contrast to the former pocket monsters.
