If an upcoming anime series is based on a manga that is popular with action and shonen fans, the expectations regarding its implementation are correspondingly high. Sakamoto Days is no exception and unfortunately, the anime adaptation of the action-packed comedy manga is already being trashed - even before its official release tomorrow on January 11, 2025!
The harsh criticism and negative comments even get so bad thatthat the studio deleted comments under the official Japanese trailers.
Fans are dissatisfied with the animation quality
Even before the Sakamoto Days anime series can see the light of day, it's already raining down tons of harsh criticism from the fan community. There are almost only negative comments about the adaptation, especially among Japanese fans. In fact, it's said to be so bad that the YouTube channel of TMS Entertainment - the animation studio that produces the series - has started posting comments under theofficial trailersto delete Sakamoto Days.

Many fans are criticizing the animation quality of the upcoming series. According to the comments, the studio lacks dynamism in the adaptation and the animations are often called flat and stiff.
We picked out three comments for you under the two Japanese trailers on YouTube:
“Ah, I have a feeling it’s going to be worse than the manga.”
From YouTube user @user-kl7nn1ni2g
“It's sad that Sakamoto Days, Jump's next flagship contender, is being produced as an average anime like this. The same goes for the animation, but the voice actors don't fit at all in my opinion and I was so excited for it to be made into an anime. The disappointment is enormous. It's a work that could be a big part of Shonen Jump in the future, so I wish it was better realized."
From YouTube user @7nu9yd6g
"It's amazing that the original manga, which has such interesting and engaging action scenes, is adapted into such a boring and average anime."
From YouTube user @habaneropepper846
There is also criticism that there were hardly any action-packed scenes or fights shown in the two trailers, even though the Sakamoto Days manga has these as its main focus. Action-packed moments, crazy fights and incredibly precise movements are the hallmarks of the popular shonen manga. According to the community voices, TMS Entertainment's animation style and implementation does not do the manga justice.
Some comments in the Japanese community are simply insults to the studio, comments on personal dubbing role preferences, or expressions of pity for the creator of Sakamoto Days. So it's no wonder that TMS Entertainment has started deleting comments under the official trailers for the anime, according to the community.
It's important to note that the two unpopular trailers on TMS Entertainment's official YouTube channel are already out of date. Netflix released a “final trailer” for Sakamoto Days on January 9, 2025, which shows many action scenes and proves that the animation studio has not neglected the main focus of the popular manga series.
In addition, a trailer is of course only a small preview of the finished product. How good the series will ultimately be will only become apparent when it is released tomorrow.
