Mario Kart 9: 24 drivers, new item & more - this is what the first 14 seconds of the fun racer reveal

While thewas no longer a real big surprise - after all, it had already happened in advance– the first trailer for the new console still delivered a bang.

Because the first game that was featured was nothing less than a new Mario Kart part! Whether it actually is nowor something else called or coming at the launch of the Switch or later, has not yet been revealed. But one thing is certain: we'll get a new Mario Kart in the not too distant future!

The game was shown in the trailer for almost 14 seconds and even if that's not a lot, there are already some interesting details to discover in this short time.

If you don't know what we're talking about: You can watch the scenes here (from around 01:41):

1. There are (up to) 24 drivers on the track

If you take a closer look at the first frames of the game scenes, you can see a total of 24 start markings on the route. This means that in Mario Kart 9 up to 24 drivers are allowed on the slopes.

This means that the new part doubles the previous maximum number of drivers in Mario Kart games - which is "only" 12.

2. The new track is called Mario Bros. Circuit and is significantly wider than Mario Kart 8 courses

Just a small detail, but it proves that the route is definitely a new course and not an old oneknown. Because there was no “Mario Bros. Circuit” there. The lettering can be seen under the start/finish gate.

Also noticeable:The track is significantly wider than the majority of the tracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and the acceleration arrows are also much more expansive. No wonder, after all, up to 24 drivers are on the road at the same time and therefore need space.

At the end of the gameplay scenes you can also see how extensive the slope is and that the "Mario Bros. Circuit" apparently allows several routes and significantly more shortcuts. It is possible that the course development here is as inchanges from round to round. Some are already speculating that this could be a reference to an open game world in some form - but we doubt it.

Oh yes:Have you noticed that the rocks in the distance look like mushrooms?

3. There is at least one new item

It should certainly come as no surprise that the new Mario Kart will place some new aids on the tracks with which you can spit in the soup of your opponents. However, one of these items can already be seen in the trailer.

It is located in front of the entrance of the cute Yoshi Burger restaurant and is difficult to see. It could be flames or something miraculous, yesmade it a very special game. What it actually is, only the future will show.

4. Donkey Kong has a customized design – a reference to skins?

Anyone who saw Donkey Kong in the game scenes probably asked themselves, as we did: “He looks different somehow?”

And in fact, Nintendo seems to be adapting the monkey's look for Mario Kart 9. The "new" design is reminiscent of the one from the.

This change is widely criticized on social media and secretly hoped that it is just a skin for the famous monkey. Completely new outfits or alternative designs would be a novelty for the Mario Kart series, but for that reason they are definitely conceivable.

Speaking of new design:Mario has also changed somewhat compared to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, his design is reminiscent of that from Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Another cool detail: When he jumps over a small bump, his head deforms - and so does the kart.

5. The vehicles are becoming significantly more detailed, varied and customizable

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe already offered a whole range of different vehicles, although only a few points (tires, sails) could be adjusted.

This seems to be different or much more sophisticated with Mario Kart 9, because in just a few seconds of gameplay material you can see detailed suspensions and fuel tanks on Mario Kart and even skids like a snowmobile on Rosalina's vehicle.

Some are already interpreting this to mean that it might be in the new Mario KartThere could be significantly more changes between on- and off-road sections.

In addition, a number of other little things can be discovered in the material, including the fact that the camera Toads from Mario Kart TV are back on board or that there will be civilian traffic or cars/obstacles driving around again on some routes.

We'll tell you everything else we know about Mario Kart 9 so far in our overview:

At the beginning of April, Nintendo will present the Switch 2 in more detail in a new Direct edition. It is very possible that we will then find out more about the new Mario Kart - such as the specific title and release date.
