But not a Netflix series: Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to the big screen as a film

The open-world hit Netflix series announced in summer 2022will not be available in the originally planned version. Instead, PS Productions is working with Columbia Pictures on a feature film about Aloy and the world designed by Guerrilla Games.

At the CES 2025 currently taking place in Las Vegas, film producer Asad Qizilbash, who, among other things, also worked on the filmsandworked, confirmed this change of plan.

However, a possible start date, plot details or casting decisions were not revealed. So it's unclear whether the plans for the series will be completely scrapped or just revised.

Current news about Horizon

As a reminder:The Netflix series should be called Horizon 2074 and tell the story of Aloy in several timelines, but also the events surrounding the apocalypse.

From the beginning, the plan was probably quite ambitious from a financial perspective. The effort involved in translating the various robo-dinos and environments from the world of Horizon into a live-action series is undoubtedly great.

Recently, however, the successes ofandhas shown that such investments can be worthwhile. Sony would like to take this route with planned showsorcontinue in the future.

In the cinema, of all places, the game implementations have recently remained the sameand the one addressedGrand TourismandUnchartedtends to fall short of expectations. It will therefore be exciting whetherHorizoncan achieve better results here.

However, the film is unlikely to be released in cinemas any time soon. So far there is no footage and no information about the cast. The project is apparently still in a very early phase.

A possible success will also depend heavily on which people can be won for the script, the direction and of course as the main actors.
