Stardew Valley Update 1.6: Bug caused chickens to disappear overnight and the developer's explanation is brilliant

A new bug in Stardew Valley caused chickens to disappear. Or was it not a bug at all?

Yesterday wasfinally updated to version 1.6.9 on the Nintendo Switch and all other consoles. The launch didn't go quite smoothly, but developer Eric ?ConcernedApe? Barone and his team were quickly on the scene and made a small “Day One patch” a few hours later. to version 1.6.10.

While there was actually a major bug on PS4 and PS5 that caused the game to no longer start, a smaller bug also crept into Star Valley, which was given a funny explanation by the creator himself. Both problems have already been resolved. For more information, please take a look at yesterday's live ticker for the console release of patch 1.6:

Is it a bug or a feature?

The Meadowlands Farm came into play with Update 1.6. Many fans who started a new save because of the patch chose this farm. The strength of the area is that you can keep animals here particularly well. In keeping with this, you can also start with two chickens.

What was the mistake?Shortly after the release of the new patch, it could happen that the chickens disappeared into Nirvana. The bug was apparently triggered by players entering the chicken coop directly on day 1 of their score. Of course that wasn't intentional.

The “real” one But the reason is completely different. As Barone explains in a tongue-in-cheek tweet, fans should expect a wild coyote to snatch the chickens on the first day of their new farm. A pretty clever hunting animal, after all there will be a lot of prey to be picked up at the Meadowlands farm.

Small 'Day One Patch' 1.6.10 for all platforms

Bugs are generally annoying, of course. But the developer's friendly explanation is still great, especially since he and his team quickly came up with the necessary improvements (via Twitter/X).

Overnight, all platforms, including the PC version, received another small update to version 1.6.10. This patch not only fixed the coyote bug, but also a few minor issues. The PlayStation version should now work normally again. If animals disappear again during your Meadowlands adventure, you now know the reason.

Do you know other ?official lore reasons? for bugs in video games?
