Thatwe already knew. Also that the loot shooter will appear on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2025. Developer Gearbox has now taken The Game Awards as an opportunity to show us what we can roughly expect with the first real trailer.
GameStar colleague Tillmann was able to watch the trailer in advance, chat with studio founder Randy Pitchford and put together a preview with all the information for you. You can find his article a few lines below. Here in the article we want to summarize the most important new findings for you.
A (!) big game world and surprisingly little humor
Although Borderlands 4 looks quite familiar at first glance with its striking cel-shaded look, the first impression belies the fact that Gearbox is approaching some points in a new way.
First of all, the trailer workssignificantly darker and more serious, than we are used to from the often chatty Borderlands. But first take a look for yourself:
Just a big planet!Gone are the days when we were like last timetravel the galaxy. Part 4 is based on the planet Kairos as the only open world, which is supposed to be bigger than any other in the series.
More dynamics!Gearbox has also improved mobility, which can already be seen in the trailer with the quick use of a grappling hook followed by a double jump.
New villain!Handsome Jack and the influencer twins are followed by... the time keeper - who might be familiar to those of you who are interested in lore. Our adversary was probably created by the alien people of the Eridians and hopefully, despite his dark aura, he has one or two striking sayings up his sleeve.
By the way, here are some brand new pictures from Borderlands 4, including a new villain:
New exterminators:Gearbox hasn't yet revealed who exactly we can go hunting for loot with, but in the trailer we already see a heavily armed tank, a kind of scientist and an assassin equipped with two swords.
According to Gearbox - here againReference to the interview by GameStar colleague Tillmann– the new exterminators should be equipped with the “most diverse skill trees” in the entire series.
A completely new Borderlands chapter
Although Borderlands 4 follows on from the end of its predecessor, it wants to rely significantly less on the nostalgia factor than Part 3 and Pitchford gives no guarantee that all well-known characters will return. At Gearbox they don't want to rely on the well-known, but rather open a completely new chapter in the series.
What is your first impression of Borderlands 4 and would you be okay if the series struck a new note in some areas?
