The first season of Arcane was a bit of a surprise for me in 2001. Not only did it look incredibly good, but it was also fantastically written, so that I fell in love with several characters after just a few episodes.
That didn't make the 3-year wait for season 2 easy. At least the third episode rewards me with a scene that I was already hoping for in season 1. But Arcane wouldn't be Arcane if a beautiful moment wasn't immediately followed by a proverbial punch in the stomach.
Spoiler alert! This is about events from the third episode in Season 2 of Arcane. If you haven't seen the episode yet, let's anticipate some surprises and twists. Accordingly, you should watch them first and then come back.
The kiss that has been brewing since season 1
For everyone who is still there or is back: The scene in question is of course about the kiss between Vi and Caitlyn, which made me pretty happy as a fan of the pairing. After all, I've been waiting for this since the first season.
The relationship between the two was already a big focus there. Although Vi and Caitlyn are opposites in many aspects, the chemistry between them was quickly felt.
And so entertaining Vis ?You're hot, Cupcake? Also, the bond seemed to quickly go beyond just sexual attraction. This is suggested not least by the scene in which Vi tenderly pushes a strand of hair out of Caitlyn's face.
Even back then I was hoping for a kiss, which the series felt like it was dangling in front of me like a carrot, but it just didn't come.
Where season 1 still flirts with the question of “will they or won’t they?” has danced around, season 2 finally puts the cards on the tableand makes me pretty happy with a single scene? at least for a few minutes. Before everything goes down the drain.
It couldn't have ended well at all
Of course, the happiness can't last, because Arcane loves his drama at least as much as his action scenes. Shortly after the kiss, the two finally confront Jinx and a fight breaks out.
While Vi wants to stop her sister because she feels guilty for being ?Jinx? and wants to prevent further suffering, Caitlyn actually only wants revenge for her mother's death. And she's willing to use any means to achieve this, even if she runs the risk of hurting innocent people? a line that Vi doesn't want to cross.
It happens as it has to happen: Vi stops Caitlyn and a short but harsh argument breaks out between the two, the end of which is Vi? and me too? leaves you with a broken heart.
This doesn't really come as a surprise to me. It was clear to me from the first episode of season 2 that their relationship couldn't end well.
Driven by grief and anger, Caitlyn has repeatedly rejected suggestions from Vi, while at the same time trying to impose her own methods on Vi, such as offering her the Enforcer job. Vi, for her part, was so consumed by guilt that she ultimately caved, even though she didn't agree with Caitlyn.
This is simply not a healthy basis for a relationship. So ultimately it is better for the two of them that they part at this moment? Even though it still hurts me so much to watch the scene.
Hope for the future
Even though things look bleak for Vi and Caitlyn's relationship at the end of episode 3, I still have hope for the future. After all, we still have six episodes to go and Arcane has already placed a lot of emphasis on the development of its characters in the first season.
Caitlyn isn't in a good mental state at the moment and isn't taking the time to really process her mother's death. But sooner or later she will be confronted with exactly this and will then have to deal with her past actions and her behavior towards Vi.
The only question is whether Vi will still be there so the two can reconcile. But I remain cautiously optimistic. Although it would also be a strong and realistic ending if Vi and Caitlyn cannot repair their relationship because they simply missed the right moment? At the same time, I also think that after all the hardships they both deserve to be happy.
Hey, I've already waited three years for a single kiss, so I can still hold out hope for a few more episodes that a happy ending awaits me at the end!
How did you like the first three episodes of season two so far?
