As proof, he shows the price labels, which confirm the reduced price. The reason for the price reduction is the broken seal on the packaging of the PS5 Pro.
If a product has a broken seal, many stores consider it a “verified return.” This means that the console has already been opened once and may have been used for a short time, but was sold again after a technical inspection. Dealers often offer such returns at a cheaper price because they are no longer considered “new”. In the USA, Walmart reduced the price of the console in this case, so that the buyer paid significantly less than the new price of $700.
Discounts for returns – also in Germany?
In Germany it is also common practice to offer returns or verified returns at a lower price. The legal guarantee and warranty remain in effect. Consumers can therefore use such offers as a way to save on purchasing popular products. When making larger purchases, it is worth looking specifically for tested returns or so-called “B-stock” offers in order to achieve price advantages.
Price comparison: PS5 Pro in the USA versus Germany
The player from the USA paid a total of around 500 euros for his PS5 Pro thanks to the discount and the lower tax burden. The regular retail price of the PS5 Pro in the USA is 700 US dollars, which is equivalent to around 630 euros. In the USA there are usually lower taxes; in Missouri the sales tax is only 4.225%. In Germany, however, the VAT is 19%, which increases the final price of the PS5 Pro to around 800 euros.
It is therefore not worth it for German buyers to import a PS5 Pro from the USA. Customs duties and import taxes would negate the price advantage, and additional shipping and handling costs may apply. Purchasing directly from German providers is therefore usually the better option.
