As part of a 60-minute Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Switch 2 was presented in detail today. There was plenty of tangible information about the console, their new possibilities and the coming games. The publication date and the price are now known.
The Switch 2 has oneHDR-capable LCD screen with around 20 centimetersDiameter-that is almost five centimeters more than the standard predecessor. The thickness remains the same with 13.9 millimeters. Thanks to a more flexible stand, the screen can be better tilted when the console is on the table. The resolution in handheld mode is 1080p (Full HD) and the maximum frame rate is 120 fps.
In dock mode, the Switch 2 supports a 4K resolution including HDR. The dock is cooled via an internal fan that sucks the air from below and releases it upwards. In addition to the USB-C connection on the underside, there is now a second on the top. The Switch 2 can be loaded over it, but accessories can also be connected. The internal memory is 256 GB, some of which are reserved for the operating system as usual. As a memory expansion, only maps of the MICRO SD Express type are accepted. For this, reading and writing the data should be much faster overall. Digital games, memory, profiles and more can be transferred from the Switch to Switch 2.
The new Joy-Con 2-controllers keep magnetic, due to the strong connection, the console must be solved at the push of a button. They offer larger analogsticks, larger SL/SR keys and an improved rumble function. Both Joy-Cons also have a new mouse functionthat is used in certain games. For example, you can sow up in a golf game by gently sliding one of the Joy-Cons over the table.
A microphone was also installed (including NOISE-CANCLING function)on the top that is used for the new game chat. A total of five people can take part in such a chat - with video transmission using (separately available) Nintendo Cam.The new C-button on the right Joy-Con opens a special chat menu, among other things with a mute function and the option for screen transmission. The loudspeakers built into the console should provide a clear and natural tone. In the future, there will also be 3D sound via headset or headphones. On the top there is a jack connection, just like the predecessor.
Basically, the Switch 2 is downward compatible, However, Switch games have to support this. Some titles, including the two current Zelda parts Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party Jamboree as well as Kirby and the forgotten country, receive paid upgrades. These offer, among other things, a higher image rate, HDR support or new game content. Switch-2 titles come to red gamecards that have the same proportions as the previous switch modules, but of course cannot be played on the old Switch.
Nintendo Switch 2 will be released on June 5thIn two variants:The console without a game costs 469.99 euros,With Mario Kart World (download) in the bundle, 509.99 eurosdue. From April 8, the console can be pre -ordered in both versions in the Nintendo Store.
In addition, a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will appear. This has a GR and a GL button on the underside of the handles that can be individually occupied. The pad also offers a headphone socket. So far, however, neither the publication date nor the price for the new accessories are known.
