News-Nintendo Switch 2: Patent confirms Maus function of the new Joy-Cons

For a long time there was speculation about a mouse function of the new Joy-Cons, a patent now seems to confirm it.

Switch 2 will be presented in detail in April-and then it should also be officially secured that the new Joy-Cons will offer a mouse functionality, which should above all be relevant for strategy game fans. Such a feature has been haunted by the rumor mill for a long time, and a Nintendo patent that has become public on the net now seems to be confirmed in advance.

On February 6, 2025 yesterday, the patent became public and, in addition to the appropriate description, also provides various graphics on how the whole thing will work in practice. The patent was submitted in August 2023, even if the publication was only now made.

A first graphic shows how you hold the Joy-Con to use it as a mouse. This is tilted onto the table surface with the new magnetic underside. Far from the magnets, optical sensors were also integrated, which enable the mouse function.

In another picture you can see how the ZR trigger probably works as a left mouse button, the middle finger lies on the R-trigger, which probably corresponds to the right mouse button. The thumb is placed on the joystick, which could possibly be given a scroll function.

Apparently the mouse function is supported by both Joy-Cons. It is unclear whether a simultaneous use of the left and right joy-cons is also sought as a mouse, which would bring new control options, or whether it should simply be taken into account both left and right-handed.

Nintendo will present the Switch 2 as part of a Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. Finally, the exact start time of the event was also confirmed at 3:00 p.m.
