From Software has surprisingly announced the next chapter of the Soulslike franchise with Elden Ring Nightreign. It had previously been indicated that there would be further titles in the game series.
From Software recently made it clear that a real sequel in the form of Elden Ring 2 is not on the agenda. However, it was also emphasized that new titles could appear within the Elden Ring franchise - and now they were doing their best in this regard.
Elden Ring Nightreign was surprisingly officially announced at The Game Awards 2024. This is an independent multiplayer co-op action survival game in the successful Soulslike universe. In the new title, three gamers can plunge into battle together to defeat the Nightlord. From Software is once again responsible for the development itself, and the publication will be carried out with Bandai Namco as publisher.
In Elden Ring Nightreign you have to master all sorts of challenging PvE battles together with your friends. If you like it particularly difficult, you can also compete alone. You have to survive three day-after cycles while you explore the world, fight enemies and gain strength. At the end of each cycle you have to face a boss.
Eight playable characters are on board at launch, each with their own abilities and ultimates. Your journey takes you to Limveld, where the aforementioned day-night cycle also plays a crucial role. At night, the map becomes smaller and smaller with the appearance of the Night's Tide. At the end of each night you will be confronted with that night's boss. If you are successful, you get one step closer to the Nightlord.
If you lose a round, not everything is lost. Rather, you receive relics that you can use to upgrade your character and adapt it to your play style. Overall, From Software promises a compact action RPG in which no two rounds will be the same, with a completely new experience for the studio.
The release of Elden Ring Nightreign is planned for next year 2025 on the PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One platforms.
