News - Borderlands (Film): Nominated for several awards

The Borderlands film, released in August 2024, was only partially well received by fans. Humor, quality and many other points simply couldn't convince the community, and the prominent cast didn't help either. The nominations for various awards could now seem all the more interesting.

However, director Eli Roth and the cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black, Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart can't be happy about Oscar nominations or Palme d'Or. Instead, the Borderlands film was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award a whopping six times. This anti-award has been presented every year since 1981 and honors the worst films of the year.

So the six nominations for Borderlands are more of a borderline honor than a real cause for celebration for the team. For example, at the 45th “Razzies” the film has a chance of winning the title as the worst film of 2024. This would put him ahead of competitors like Madame Web, Joker: Folie à Deux and Megalopis.

Below you will find all the Golden Raspberry categories in which Borderlands was nominated:

  • Worst movie
  • Worst Actress (Cate Blanchett)
  • Worst Supporting Actor (Kevin Hart)
  • Worst Supporting Actor (Jack Black, voice)
  • Worst Direction (Eli Roth)
  • Worst Combo Actors (Any annoying duo, especially Jack Black)

Jack Black in particular doesn't seem to have impressed in Borderlands. In general, it seems as if those responsible for the Golden Raspberry Award have the actor particularly on their minds, because he was also nominated in the "Worst Actor" category for his performance in "Dear Santa - Devilish Christmas".

But the nomination doesn't really come as a surprise. Because the film was a legendary flop at the box office and quickly ended up on streaming. He had hardly anything to do with the games, as did his colleague Bastisaid: "It's a shame that when it comes to the dialogue and humor, the writers didn't bother with the original as much as the set designers and costume designers did."
