When, after a long construction period, the rum station DSS (stands for “Democratic Space Station”) was builtwas put into service,.
For a long time, the monstrous superweapon was parked away for maintenance work. Now the DSS is returning from maintenance - and has changed a lot!
What exactly happened?
The DSS was reported operational again with a fleet-wide notification to all players. This means that it can now be ordered back to a contested planet via community vote and used there for support from orbit.
In addition, a corresponding order, a so-called Major Order, was issued. This plans to successfully deter 14 planetary attacks by the Illuminate faction using the repaired DSS. If the community can overcome this challenge together, each user will receive 55 medals.
How has the DSS changed?
- Eagle Storm:In addition to the previous ground attack aircraft that fly in periodically and support you in the mission without a cooldown or extra costs, there is now a passive bonus with +1 reinforcement per team member.
- Planetary Bombardement:Instead of firing automatically, the DSS now waits for your command. Any member of a squad can request the 380mm Orbital Barrage without having the corresponding stratagem in the loadout.
- Orbital Blockade:The bonus of the old DSS remains unchanged: an enemy campaign can no longer be started from the respective planet and thanks to the passive extra, all players get out of the Hellpods fully equipped.
- Quick transfer:The new version of the DSS can now be installed much more quickly than before. The station therefore moves every four hours according to the current community vote.
What was the problem with the old DSS?
The original version of the space station bombarded the respective planet regularly and seemingly indiscriminately throughout the entire mission with its 77 Presidential-class cannons.
That led tocountless friendly fire killsand was perceived by many players as an annoying and de facto disadvantage and not as an advantage that the stationing of the DSS should actually have brought.
The frustration eventually became so great that developer Arrowhead took the station offline for the time being.
By the way: In the future, the Democratic Space Station will be expanded to include a few more functions. The developers suggested, among other things, an improved radar as an early warning system, more voting options for players and even a “community-controlled space laser” with immense destructive power.
