The most exciting cell phones 2025 have been determined for me, but there are many reasons not to buy them

Curious and yet very skeptical: Even if author Patrick will not buy any of the devices, they bring excitement with them. (Ahmad M. - Adobe Stock)

I say it as a smartphone enthusiast: the new announcements of various manufacturers leave me cold. Little new, more AI, the same price - *yawn *. For similar reasons, foldable smartphones do not reach the width mass after years.

This year various manufacturers seem to have come up with a twist, to make the devices more interesting for buyers: they get pretty thin. The, a counterpart ofshould also come onto the market this year.

For me, the upcoming smartphones are not exciting because I have serious purchase interest, but because my doubts about success could hardly be greater.

The compromises are already obvious

The Galaxy S25 Edge already shows what interested parties have to do without: On a third camera. Whether Tele or Ultra wide angle, Samsung leaves open for the time being. However, it is very likely that the ultra -wake angle camera will give way.

Samsung has withA new periscop camera is developed in which the lenses are arranged horizontally above the prism (instead of vertically in the housing).

The restriction to two lenses does not necessarily have to be bad if you only use the main camera (or one of the other two lenses) anyway. Nevertheless: You potentially lost to flexibility in favor of a thinner housing.

With the new camera technology, potentially better portrait recordings are possible in poor lighting conditions. (Samsung)

With the iPhone 17 Air, Apple even seems to go a more drastic way and only put it on a single lens. There is no doubt that this is the main camera if it happens. Incidentally, the Apple cell phone should be between 5.5 and 6.2 millimeters.

In addition to the missing cameras, the battery life is probably also left behind. A Chinese certification body specifies a battery with 3786 mAh for the S25 Edge, which can be loaded at a maximum of 25 watts.

Nothing has yet been set in stone, but even if the manufacturers fall back on advanced battery technologies, they willcan keep up, some of which exceed 6000 mAh.

The cooling of such a housing also raises questions.

  • Samsung installs a 40 percent larger cooling chamber (Vapor Chambor) in the S25 series to improve cooling performance.
  • Samsung may have to somehow m and a similar solution into the housing.
  • Another option: Samsung throttles the chip to avoid too high heat development.

Last but not least, I throw the topic of stability into the ring. We all remember "Bendgate", which started with the iPhone 6 Plus (7.1 millimeter thick). The videos in which the expensive cell phones ended up on the scrap site were (mostly) unrealistic, but showed the clear weaknesses of such devices.

Overall, I am very excited to see how the manufacturers master these hurdles and not whether, but how far the compromises towards "normal" smartphones will go.

A (too) high price

We all agree: None of these ultra -thin smartphones will be cheap. Samsung is still covered with pricing.

According to rumors, both the S25 Edge and the iPhone 17 Air should not exceed the prices of the absolute top cell phones. At the same time, they will probably not undercut the standard models.

It can therefore be assumed for the time being that yoube exceed. If this is the case, the surcharge compared to the cheaper and potentially better models with the aesthetics, which is in the eye of the viewer, is to be justified.

Overall: no added value

Do not understand: I am curious and at the same time very excited how the well -known manufacturers want to make the ultra -small smartphones tasty, which compromises are made or whether there will be a big surprise in the end.

In any case, it is impressive technicallyto complete such a device at all. After all, Samsung even came up with a new camera technology that was apparently designed for the S25 Edge.

At the moment, however, I am extremely skeptical and, apart from the aesthetics of such a slim smartphone, see no added value for the end customer.

Incidentally, other manufacturers will probably jump on this trend. The manufacturers Vivo, Oppo and Xiaomi are supposed to work on ultra -thin cell phones for 2025. You can look forward to what awaits us.

How do you feel about this topic? Have I overlooked something and is there a (great) added value or advantage over conventional smartphones?
