CES 2025 is in full swing. The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas was kicked off by GPU manufacturer AMD, who at least announced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the new upscaling generation FSR 4.
However, those interested in GPUs are still waiting for official details, so there is still a lot left based on leaks, rumors and trade fair visitors.
The latter includes the YouTube channel Hardware Unboxed, which says it has now stumbled upon two "hidden" computers that do not explicitly list FSR 4 - but do call it "AMD Graphics Research AI-based upscaling".
- In the eyes of the YouTubers, this is a clear indication that this is actually the fourth version of FidelityFX Super Resolution.
- It was also confirmed to Hardware Unboxed that the graphics cards installed should be a Radeon RX 9000. However, the exact model was not mentioned.
The game that ran on the test computers was the platforming adventure “Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart”. For the comparison values, the YouTubers used the performance mode of FSR 3.1 and FSR 4 with double upscaling to 4K resolution.
It was not possible to quantify FPS or latency due to the lack of displays, but the YouTubers were impressed by the visual improvements that can be seen in the video:

A significant improvement compared to FSR 3.1 can be seen, particularly with fast-moving objects and transparent elements. These were also areas in which previous versions of AMD's upscaling had problems.
Basically, in the eyes of Hardware Unboxed, FSR still doesn't come close to the quality of Nvidia DLSS, but the development is positive. Streak and flicker effects in particular were observed to a much lesser extent.
