Four months after the successful start on Xbox Series X/S and PC isNow also published for PlayStation 5 - and the port can convince across the board. Developed by machines, the game uses the engine engine (a modification of ID Tech 7) and delivers a film-ready action adventure with stealth, puzzles and fight. It is particularly interesting to use Raytraced Global Illumination (RTGI), which also ensures coherent lighting on PlayStation 5 with 60 frames per second. Digital Foundry hasThe PS5 version took a closer look.
Only small advantages for PS5 Pro-User
According to Digital Foundry, the PS5 version largely corresponds to the Xbox Series X version, but also offers support for the adaptive trigger of the dual sensual controller. There are no different graphics modes, the game is consistently optimized for an RTGI-based 60 FPS experience. Differences in the display are minimal, the texture, shadow and volume quality quality is on a similar level on all platforms, whereby the PS5 shows volume effects per selectively dissolved.
The render resolution is dynamically scaled between 1200p and 1800p on the PS5, on the PS5 Pro it ranges from 1440p to native 4K. While the PS5 often represents fewer pixels per frame compared to the Series X with the same scaling, the PS5 Pro compensates for this through its stronger GPU and provides the clearest image quality in console comparison. According to the technology experts, the Series X achieves its resolution advantage largely by hardware-based variable rate shading (VRS), a feature that is not supported on the PS5.
As far as performance is concerned, all versions are largely smooth with 60 fps. According to Digital Foundry, smaller stalks occur at automatic storage points or when changing camera perspectives to cutscenes - there are no differences between the consoles. A rare exception is an action -packed scene in the underground of the Vatican, in which the Series X keeps the frame rate best, while the PS5 briefly falls to around 40 fps and the PS5 Pro arranges in between.
The PS5 Pro is also superior to the image quality, which is particularly due to the higher maximum resolution. This in turn shows in a more detailed representation of clothing or vegetation. Apart from that, the graphic settings remain largely identical to the basic PS5. A shadow defect that has been known since the launch has been striking, which affects all console versions and has only been improved on the PC.
Ultimately, Indiana Jones and the large circle for the technology experts are also an impressive experience on the PS5. Despite small technical advantages on the Xbox Series X, for example during resolution by VRS, the difference to the PS5 is low. PS5 Pro users also benefit from a higher sharpness. So if you have been waiting for the PlayStation version so far, you will get an all-round successful game with a stable 60 FPS gameplay and strong presentation.
