The Witcher 4 is set after the events of The Witcher 3. This time we no longer play Geralt, but rather his foster daughter Ciri, who is now taking up the job of a professional monster hunter herself.

Gameplay: What changes in The Witcher 4?

The fourth part will again be a single-player open-world RPG. So we explore the world, fight monsters and make decisions that influence the story.

The new protagonist also opens up space for gameplay innovations. On the one hand, Ciri is less detached than Geralt and follows her heart more. Players should have the opportunity to shape Ciri and her code, like game director Sebastian Kalembaexplained. We can save the young woman from the trailer in the game with the right decisions.

But this influence should not only affect the story. The gameplay will also offer more variety and allow more options for builds.

This is where Ciri's magic, which we also see in the trailer, could come into play. Unlike Geralt, who was limited to a small selection of characters, Ciri can unleash entire lightning storms. That alone could enable different builds that focus on melee or magic, for example.

What happens next after The Witcher 4?

In addition to the fourth part, there are also a few other The Witcher projects in the works. A remake of the first part is planned. This is not developed by CD Projekt Red itself, but by Fool's Theory:

In addition, the story should continue after The Witcher 4. The game is the starting point of a new trilogy that is in the works at CD Projekt. Not much is known about The Witcher 5 and 6 yet. The games are also developed in UE5. This means that your development time should be shorter than with The Witcher 4, as the necessary assets will already be available.
