Switch 2 supposedly has a handy feature in handheld mode that allows you to get more battery life

The year 2024 is slowly coming to an end and there is great excitement as to whether we will see the official unveiling of the Nintendo Switch successor this year. While Nintendo itself remains largely silent, sporadic leaks and rumors continue to appear regarding certain functions of the device.

One of the most recent comes from leaker Nash Weedle. He wroteon X/Twitterthat the Switch 2 supposedly gets a practical function that saves the device's battery.

Full performance or more battery life?

What kind of function is this? The new console is said to offer a choice in the main menu as to whether performance or battery life should be preferred. Since such a selection would only make sense in handheld mode and not in docked mode, this function apparently only exists when the device is not in the station and is therefore connected to power anyway.

However, the leaker leaves open which specific parameters (brightness, general device performance, gaming performance, etc.) this selection has an impact on. However, since it is mentioned that Nintendo wants to avoid graphics options for games in this way, we assume that selecting the battery option would also limit the performance/graphical quality of the titles played.

Where does the information come from and how credible is it?

According to Nash Weedle, the information comes from a developer who has a Switch devkit. In the past, the leaker himself had always been right in his predictions, but also often wrong.

A function is basically conceivable. With the current Switch models, battery life is one of the points of criticism, especially with more technically demanding games, because they can drain the battery pretty quickly. It cannot be ruled out that Nintendo will address this “problem” with the successor.

As usual, Nintendo has not commented on this rumor. But it won't be too long before we all know whether the Switch 2 will actually have such a function. Because Nintendo still plans to present the Switch successor by the end of March 2025.

Do you think the Switch 2 really has such a function?
