The player receives a legendary graphics card as a gift from a work colleague and throws his own card out of the PC - even though it is actually faster

PC hardware is an expensive affair these days. Therefore, looking at older GPU models is not a bad solution at all - especially if it is being given away for free.

A Reddit user was happy about this, as he quickly threw his RTX 3060 out of his system in order to 'upgrade' to an actually slower GTX 1070.

Work colleague gives gamer a graphics card and it's even 'brand new'

Redditor Slow_Leopard_9486 seems to have a pretty nice co-worker. While cleaning out a cupboard, he discovered a graphics card - in an unused condition, so it is as good as new.It is a GTX 1070, as captured in a photo:

The lucky guy didn't hesitate and installed the graphics card in his PC, even though, according to his own statements, he had only recently bought an RTX 3060. It should then go back to the dealer.

But why does the player give up the actually faster graphics card?Very simple: He is probably a little tight on money and would rather save a few dollars.

The community also seems to be able to understand his plan - it's better to get a little cheaper hardware now and then go for a faster model in a few years when the prices have fallen a little and the account balance allows it.

But what else can a GTX 1070 do these days?

Many of you will have fond memories of Nvidia's Pascal graphics cards; they outperformed the previous series by 75 percent in some cases. The GTX 1070 achieved roughly the performance level of a GeForce GTX Titan X, Nvidia's high-end flagship from last year, at a third of the price.

There hasn't been such a big leap in performance since then, which is why the last GTX graphics cards will probably forever have legendary status among PC gamers. And that is not unjustified even today.

Follow it upBenchmarks, even complex games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring can be played with the graphics card at medium graphics settings and a Full HD resolution with over 60 fps.Becomes activated, there is even more to it.

It would probably even run the UE5 remake of Need for Speed: Underground 2:

However, the graphics card lacks current features:Ray-Tracingcannot be used, so real-time calculated reflections and lighting moods are not possible. And alsoDLSSdoes not support the GTX 1070, as the AI-based scaling algorithm requires special hardware.

Nevertheless, it's a really good temporary solution and if it comes to your house for free, there's really nothing to complain about. Even if a faster graphics card is thrown out of the PC!
