Pokémon TCG Pocket: There are cards that cleverly counteract overly strong Pokémon EX - but they aren't in the game yet

Mimigma has an ability in the regular trading card game that protects it from ex-Pokémon.

If we take a look at thevonone thing becomes clear very quickly: the most popular decks have one thing in common: they mostly use strong ex cards like Pikachu-ex, Mewtwo-ex or Starmie-ex.

While these cards seem difficult to defeat, especially at the moment, there are effective counters in the traditional trading card game, the implementation of which in TCG Pocket could turn the meta on its head again.

If you don't feel like playing matches with ex-Pokémon, you can check out this idea from the community:

In Pokémon TCG there are counters to ex-cards that TCG Pocket is currently missing

These are ex cards:In contrast to the “normal” cards, the ex variants of the pocket monsters usually have more life and significantly stronger attacks. A clear example of this is Pikachu, which in its blank variant has just 60 HP and has a single attack called "Gnaw" that causes a paltry 20 damage to the opposing Pokémon.

In contrast, Pikachu-ex, with its 120 HP, has twice as much life and has a powerful attack in its repertoire called "Circular Course", which causes 30 damage points for each Lightning Pokémon on its own bench - ideally, the opposing Pokémon has to do 120 damage points when the bank is full.

The regular Pikachu card is so weak that it's best to evolve it into Raichu as quickly as possible.

These are ex-counters

As in TCG Pocket, there are many ex-cards in the original trading card game. There too, these are usually an essential part of the current meta, but do not completely dominate it. On the one hand, this is due to the additional V-cards, which are also a special version like the ex-monsters, but on the other hand, there are also effective counters in the game that prevent the ex-Pokémon from completely dominating.

On Reddit, user Lofus1989 lists some of these counter cards together with his wish to finally see them as part of TCG Pocket:

In the Reddit thread you can get Pokémon cards such as Symvolara or Rocara with theBodyguard abilitysee that completely prevent damage from opposing ex-Pokémon. A more modern variant of this is Mimigma, which comes with theBodyguard abilityNot only prevents damage from ex-Pokémon, but also from V-Pokémon.

In the example, Pottrott owns throughExtreme contractionthe same ability as Symvolara and Rocara under a different name.

For thread creators and RedditorsLofus1989One thing is clear: Cards like Symvolara and Rocara would significantly slow down currently popular meta decks like Pikachu-ex and Mewtwo-ex. As a result, players would have to focus on incorporating more regular Pokémon into their decks.

Without such cards in the game, it is difficult to assess what their impact on the matches and the meta would really be. In contrast to the regular card game, your deck is only a third as large with 20 instead of 60 cards. This means that your choice of cards needs to be carefully considered and there is little space for emergency cards.

More about Pokémon TCG Pocket

So while you can quickly add a Mimigma to your deck in the regular trading card game, the decision would be more difficult in TCG Pocket. However, the change would probably primarily affect the ex-heavy decks.

Decks like the 18-Trainer deck or the Charizard-ex & Lavados-ex deck would immediately lose their importance and would urgently need to produce a variant that works without ex cards. Mewtwo-ex, on the other hand, could remain similarly strong and bring in a replacement attacker that deals damage in the ex-Pokémon's place.

Either way; Currently the counters to the ex cards are pure wishful thinking. Since Pokémon TCG Pocket will gradually receive more sets in the future, we will find out whether the developers will incorporate counters to the ex cards and how these will affect the game.

Do you also want counters to the ex cards or are you completely satisfied with the current meta of Pokémon TCG Pocket?
