Does not play melee class
This may sound harsh if you are looking forward to monks and warriors, but you should choose a ranged class, especially if you have no experience with Path of Exile. You will quickly be surrounded by normal monsters and the mobile ranged fighters will have a much easier time dealing with these situations because they can simply drag groups of enemies behind them.
Alternatively, you should consider a bow or crossbow as a secondary weapon. They can save your life, especially in certain boss fights.
Set short-term goals in the skill tree
The passive skill tree can be overwhelming at first. Therefore, you should set yourself short-term goals and not see the tree as a whole.
Focus on strengthening the skills you use most. Work your way to the nodes that improve your weapon and take a defensive branch with you if you feel like you're taking too much on the nose.
Life regeneration on items
To fill your healing potions, you have to kill enemies. But this can be difficult if you run out of fillings and have to move to the next group with low life.
Therefore, you should not underestimate life regeneration. Have them on at least one item or take a few nodes in the skill tree with you. Then you can heal between groups without using potions.
Uses multiple elements
It can be tempting to run around as a pure fire mage and focus all of your talents on fire damage. However, this will break your neck as soon as you meet the first enemy who is resistant or even immune to fire damage.
Always take skills from different elements with you so that you can react to these opponents.
Read skills carefully
Many skills in PoE2 interact with each other. Therefore, you should read their descriptions carefully or watch the helpful videos in the menu.
For example, frozen enemies are shattered by the mercenary's shotgun blast. Any projectiles that pass through the Mage's Fire Walls deal additional Fire damage.
There are countless combinations that you can miss if you're not careful.

Upgrade weapons and armor
In Path of Exile 2 you rarely find really good items. Instead, you have to do it yourself. With the balls you find, you can turn even normal, gray objects into rare monster killers. You can also increase the quality, add new values or install sockets.
So even items from the first act still retain their value in the third. So don't leave a single orb lying around and put them in your bank.
Be sure to fight all intermediate bosses
Smaller optional bosses will be highlighted on the map. You should definitely fight these, because they are not only part of quests and drop good loot, but also give you permanent upgrades, such as resistances, additional skill points or more life points.
