Path of Exile 2: The best graphics settings for PS5 and PS5 Pro

Path of Exile 2's graphics menu lets you juggle between quality and performance.

On December 6th the time had finally comehas been released in Early Access for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. While with most console games we are used to choosing between a few presets such as 'Quality' or 'Performance', the ARPG from Grinding Gear Games makes our lives a little more difficult.

We have worked through the graphics settings and will not only briefly summarize what is behind them, but will also give you the best settings so that you can hunt for great loot as worry-free as possible.

These are the best graphics settings on PS5 and PS5 Pro

ImOptions menuwe find the tab on the far left'Chart', which lets us adjust some unusual settings. We'll work our way from top to bottom and give you our preferred settings along the way. At the same time, we'll give you a few tips on where you can squeeze a few more fps out of the game.

With the following settings your PS5 can handle most situations50-60fpsand the game is very pleasant to play. Only in the hubs and during the particularly effective boss fights can things go a little further down - but in our tests the game always remained playable with the settings.

Display settings

  • Dynamic resolution:Out of

The option ensures that your resolution automatically adapts to the action on your screen in order to always achieve the desired frame rate (setting under refresh rate). In fact, this will make the image much worse than if you worked with a reduced render resolution from the start. We therefore recommend this route and switch off the option.

  • Upscaling mode:NIS (standard), alternatively FSR and PSSR on PS5 Pro

Here you can choose between NIS, FSR and Bilinear. On the PS5 Pro there is even PSSR. We recommend NIS on the PS5 because the scaler is ahead in terms of performance. However, the scaler inherently sharpens, which not everyone likes. If you don't like the effect, switch to FSR as an alternative. On the PS5 Pro we recommend PSSR.

  • Render resolution (for NIS):67 % - 2560 x 1440 (1440p)
  • Image quality (at FSR): Balanced
  • Image quality (at PSSR):Quality
  • Sharpness:0% for NIS, 30% for FSR

The sharpening effect ensures that the edges of individual objects are highlighted slightly. This can have the effect of making the image look sharper. The setting has no influence on performance and can be adjusted to taste. We recommend 0%, especially for NIS, as the scaler already works with a sharpening effect.

  • Scene brightness:+0,0
  • UI brightness:+0,0

Detailed settings

  • Lighting:Shadows + global illumination

Global illumination looks a lot nicer, but also costs performance. So if fps is much more important to you, the option is a good adjustment screw. We turned on global illumination. If you want to keep the 60fps a little more constant, you can switch the lighting to 'shadow' - this makes the overall lighting in the world less detailed, but you also get up to 10fps more.

  • Bloom:25 %

Similar to sharpness, Bloom has no impact on performance. Simply put, the option is about blending bright light sources slightly so that they appear 'bright'. We have set the control all the way down, but you can also turn it up higher depending on your taste.

Shadow Shadows and global illumination

The game looks nicer with global lighting, but that comes at a price.

Advanced Settings

  • Refresh rate:60Hz/120Hz, alternatively 40Hz

Here you can either set it to 30Hz or 60Hz. If you have a 120Hz monitor, you can also choose between 40Hz and 120Hz. This also automatically sets the fps limit. So if you are happy with 40fps, you can also select the corresponding option here and increase the render resolution one level and enjoy a little more detail.

  • Dynamic Cullen:Out of

Similar to dynamic resolution, Dynamic Cullen ensures that the optics are dynamically adapted to the game in order to maintain the targeted frame rate. However, it is not the resolution that is adjusted here, but rather the effects. This can make a big difference in boss fights - so if you notice that the game can't keep up with a particular boss, activate Dynamic Cullen.

The PS5 Pro gives us a little more leeway when it comes to image quality, but the device can only achieve a consistent 60fps with slightly lower settings. On this point, we would like Grinding Gear Games to do some more work on the performance and, if necessary, provide even clearer presets for the consoles.

We will continue to test the game for optimal settings and adjust the guide here as patches bring noticeable changes to the game.
