Grandmother bought 20 game boys and 26 times the same game because she obviously didn't know how to charge batteries and start a new game

20 Game Boys and more: A grandson is amazed at his grandmother's curious collection.

Over the course of your life, you've probably recovered a gaming treasure from the attic of your parents' house or from your grandparents' basement and taken it home with you with a big grin. Hardly anything triggers more nostalgia than finally coming across your old PS One game box again after several years or finding the old GBC with Pokémon Red again.

Redditor KrisReed also made such a discovery a few years ago. However, this falls more into the “curious find” category.

Curious gaming find from deceased grandmother

KrisReed's grandmother left behind not one, but 19 copies of the Game Boy Advance SP.

And not only that:The elderly lady also owned 26 copies of Wario Land 4 and 14 copies. She also purchased at least one Game Boy Color, as we can see in the photo of her collection embedded below.

Now, of course, the big question arises:Why did the old lady feel the need to hoard so many Game Boy devices and multiple copies of the same game?

Unfortunately, there is no concrete answer to this. However, the guesswork surrounding this find is even more exciting. There are several assumptions from the Reddit community, which we have summarized for you here:

  • the grandmother may not have known how to charge Game Boys and always bought a new copy after the battery died
  • She may not have been aware of how to start a new save (or that it was even possible) and always bought a new copy of Wario Land 4 and Super Mario Pin Ball so she could start over
  • Maybe she made a mistake while shopping online and accidentally put the GBA devices and games in the shopping cart several times and didn't send them back when they arrived
  • Maybe she wanted to pass on the Game Boy Advance SP devices along with the games to her grandchildren

Loving inheritance to the grandchildren?

The latter assumption sounds particularly plausible if we look at a comment the author left under his post:

"I don't know. She also left behind some tutorials that she had printed out on paper from online websites, as well as some messages for her grandchildren explaining the games. I love them very much and this was bittersweet. Maybe it was Wario's fondness for Garlic."

So the older lady took the trouble to print out instructions for her grandchildren so that they could easily find their way around their favorite games. Meaning: She definitely assumed that her grandchildren would continue to use their Game Boys and games.

But no matter which explanation is correct at the end of the day, one thing is certain:Grandmother KrisReed loved video games and did everything she could to pass that passion on to her grandchildren. Kind regards!
