The Nintendo Switch 2 must be brought back one of the best Wii features!

Mario Kart 64 on Switch 2? Tobi would be there immediately. For the N64 classic, he would even open the wallet again.

A few days ago, Nintendo announced thatSuper formation Soccer at the end of March from the Nintendo Switch online service is flying. Everyone with the corresponding subscription loses access to the title and can then no longer play it.

It is a sad premiere for the service, because so far Nintendo has not removed any retro title from the abodon service. It was a special feature on the Switch, on the contrary to Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, in which the monthly deletion of titles from the catalog is completely normal.

With these services, however, it is possible to buy the games afterwards and then play them in this way. It doesn't work at Nintendo Switch Online. As soon as retro games are deleted from the offer, they are no longer at all on the Switch and are therefore no longer playable.

Virtual Console, I miss you!

The sudden announcement of the deletion once again reminded me of how much I actually mourn the virtual console afterwards-one of the best features in my opinion from the Wii (u)-era.

As a reminder: The virtual console was a collection of retro titles that bought, downloaded and then played on the console and then played by emulation.

So it was a separate retro store that let me buy my favorite games and did not block the access behind a paid subscription. And even if the quality of the emulation can certainly be discussed, I simply like it better that the games are available at any time.

With the Virtual Console, I had the feeling that I actually owned the games and not just rented for a certain time - and yes, it is clear to me that it was "only" digital copies or licenses at the time.

I lack this feeling at Nintendo Switch Online and therefore the Switch 2 would be the perfect time in my eyes for a virtual console comeback. It shouldn't even be the return of the name or the complete concept. The opportunity to buy retro titles would be enough for me.

Little hopes for a comeback

At the same time, this would also have to mean that I can also take these titles purchased to future Nintendo consolations. Because Virtual Console was not continued on the switch, you lost all purchases on the new one at the time, because it was not always the case in the past.

Because Nintendo did not continue the virtual console on the Switch and introduced the new online concept, you lost all (retro) purchases on the new console at the time. The Switch 2 is now the first large Nintendo console that allows the takeover of your own game library.

Since it has already been confirmed that the Switch Online will also be continued on the Switch 2, I do not hope that Nintendo will break up the existing concept and offer additional retro purchases. The name "Virtual Console" will probably remain in the drawer in the future and the next game that flies out of the service will be painfully reminiscent of how good the feature from the Wii era was.

What about you: Would you like to have the virtual console back?
