The death of the PS5 exclusives continues: One of the Horizon multiplayer games has now also been canceled

Horizon is a big IP for Sony, but one of the planned games may now have been discontinued.

Just a few days ago, Bloomberg reported thathad: An unknown project from Days Gone maker Bend Studio, as well as an alleged God of War multiplayer from Bluepoint.

Now it's probably time for the next multiplayer game. More specifically, one of the two planned online titles for the Horizon Zero Dawn franchise appears to be affected. However, it is not entirely clear whether this decision also came from Sony itself.

Horizon multiplayer game will probably be discontinued

The information comes from a report on the South Korean news siteMTN News(viaVGC), according to which publisher NCSoft is said to have canceled three projects that were in the works at several studios.

The projects are said to have had the code names H, J and Pantera. The report doesn't go into any further detail here, but according to previous leaks, Project H was said to be an MMO with shooter mechanics in the Horizon universe - although this was not confirmed.

We asked Sony, but there is currently no official statement on the project.

This is supported by the fact that NCSoft and Sony entered into a partnership in 2023, under which NCSoft can develop MMORPGs based on Sony's IPs.

Now, according to MTN News, Project H has been discontinued and developers who previously worked on the game are said to have been moved to other projects or left NTSoft directly.

The game's cancellation could be due to layoffs at NCSoft in October 2024 - so it's entirely possible that the live service games recently canceled by Sony are unrelated.

Most recently there was a PS5 remaster for Horizon Zero Dawn:

Guerrilla's next Horizon game probably not affected

By the way, the apparently canceled game has nothing to do with the project that Horizon developer Guerrilla Games is currently working on. The studio had already confirmed in 2022 that they were working on a new game in the Horizon universe with online co-op.

However, the title is in development independently of Project H and should therefore not be affected by its discontinuation. The game is rumored to play similarly to the Monster Hunter series.

Would you have been happy about a Horizon MMO or is that not for you anyway?
