So far, the release period for GTA 6 is autumn 2025. And that has an impact on the entire gaming industry, because nobody wants to compete with it.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released in fall 2025 and every other publisher is extremely fed up, at least as long as there is no concrete date for perhaps the most anticipated game of all time. At least that's what comes from various sources, according to a report byBloomberg, and even Rockstar mother Take-Two keeps the upcoming games out of the orbit of GTA 6.
Understandable, no one wants to be in direct competition with the successor to the best-selling action game of all time and "fall 2025" is still a very vague statement and the possibility that the title will be postponed to 2026 certainly exists, even if Rockstar continues to claim that so far the planned release period has been determined.
No wonder, then, that other publishers are currently holding back from making any statements about dates or periods in the second half of 2025, as long as it is possible. They all want to wait and see whether GTA 6 will be released on time or delayed until 2026, with the aim of creating a significant gap between the release of their own games and that of GTA 6, it is said.
Take-Two Interactive, owner of Rockstar Games, is no different. Direct competition with GTA 6 should also be avoided in-house, as CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed some time ago and this also includes Borderlands 4. “I think it's safe to say that we, nor anyone else, would stack major releases unnecessarily,” CEO Strauss Zelnick told Variety last month.
So if you're hoping for concrete fall dates, you'll probably have to wait until Rockstar makes a concrete statement or at least expect postponements after the date of GTA 6 is announced.
Finding a reasonable date for the release of a game can be difficult, as Plaion, among others, discovered. The release of the medieval role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was postponed to February 2025 in order to avoid titles like Avowed, Assassin's Creed Shadows or Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, the calculation didn't work out because both Avowed and Assassin's Creed Shadows were also postponed to February, while Civilization VII and Monster Hunter Wilds are now also being released in the same month. This in turn prompted Plaion to...in order to at least be the first to come onto the market in a strong February.
We had to wait a long time, but now Rockstar Games has released the first trailer for GTA 6. Felix, Andi and Basti looked particularly closely and summarized all the information and theses about the trailer for you in this talk.
