Fans sign petition to stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from becoming a live service game

When initial statements from Warner Bros. showed the company's interest in live service games a few months agoFans expressed their displeasure directly on the Internet.

One of them even has a petition with the title “Stop Hogwarts Legacy 2 from being a Live Service”., which has now (as of December 5, 2024) been signed virtually by over 12,400 people.

Petition creator Kevin Malcom is clear about what he wants from a Hogwarts Legacy game:

“We don't want a Harry Potter game with forced multiplayer elements because those aren't the reasons we play a game like Hogwarts Legacy. We want to meet the amazing residents of Hogwarts and experience fun quests.”

Also for those who sign the petitionis clear, that “single-player games are still relevant and important.” So one or another writesSupporterthe action that Hogwarts Legacy 2 with live service elements would “disqualify” the game for numerous people.

This is currently the situation with Hogwarts Legacy 2 and live service

A few months ago, statements from JB Perrette, Head of Games at Warner Bros., caused outrage among Hogwarts Legacy fans. Despite the failure of Rocksteady's live service gameWarner Bros. wants to focus more on such games in the future.

However, it is currently not confirmed whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will really rely on live service as the successor to a successful single-player game.

In July 2024, the development studio Avalanche was looking for support. Since the job advertisements did not look for experience in MMOs, live service games or other areas that go in this direction, it may well be that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will once again be a single-player game.

This is still known about Hogwarts Legacy 2

Although so little is known about the successor to Hogwarts Legacy, there have been isolated statements from Warner this year that they are planning the games as a longer-term franchise or want to connect them to the upcoming HBO series of Harry Potter.

There is currently no known release date for Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Would you give Hogwarts Legacy 2 a chance if it became a live service game, or have you already signed the petition against it yourself?
