The second part of the Donkey Kong series with subtitleswas originally released in 1995 for the Super Nintendo and brought with it a new playable monkey, Dixie Kong. In terms of story, the game turns the tables: This time, chief monkey Donkey has been kidnapped and the team of young heroes has to come to the rescue.
There are a lot of secrets to be found in the great jump & run sequel, for example an entire additional island that we unlock with coins from hidden bonus levels. While such things have probably all been discovered long ago, a new cheat code only recently became known.
This discovery in the SNES classic is what it's all about
The newly discovered cheat code can be admired in an X-Post (formerly Twitter) including a video demonstration. According to the post, the secret was unearthed by a Discord user h4v0c21. The key combination is as follows:
- right and Y
- left and A
- up and B
- down and X
The sequence must be entered in the pause menu. Of course, the post also reveals what the cheat does:You can use the key combination to leave a level and return to the map.

Now you might be thinking: Wait a minute, that was so much easier with just one simple command! However, this only applies to levels that we have already completed. With the cheat code it is now possible to return to the map without either completing the level or dying.
This means that we can also collect unfinished levels for bananas, lives or banana coins to save and then release them again without any losses before a difficult point comes where we could die. Without the code, this was only possible in stages that had already been defeated.
But aside from the benefits, what's most exciting is that secrets are still being discovered in popular retro games. Back in the 90s, of course, there wasn't the extremely fast flow of information that we have today with smartphones and platforms like Discord, Reddit and X.
By the way, you don't need to dig the SNES out of the basement to play the classic. It is also available on younger Nintendo systems and in the Nintendo Switch Online catalog for paying members at no additional cost.
Do you still have fond memories of the title and would you have thought that there were still undiscovered secrets within it?
