Get out the cozy sweaters, plastic vampire teeth and your pumpkin carving kit: it's finally spooky season again! The days are getting shorter and the gaming sessions are automatically longer.
A title has now landed in the PS Plus Extra catalog that I would like to recommend to you:has been an integral part of Gaming October for me since 2022 and I believe that the game deserves more attention (and players).
This is Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is basically the ghostbusters version of. So one person controls a ghost, the others slip into the Ghostbusters' overalls. Unlike Dead by Daylight, however, the ghost becomes the hunted.
Fun Haunting:The ghost's task is to fill the map's haunted display within a certain time. He does this by scaring NPCs or using his abilities such as slime attacks. He can also take possession of chairs, machines and other objects on the maps and thus hide from the hunters.
Among other things, the game sends you to a natural history museum.
Who you gonna call? The Ghostbusters simultaneously try to catch the ghost before the haunt meter fills up. The PKE meter shows which direction the ghost or one of the three rifts is located. These portals are what the ghost can do if he gets caught.
If the ghost is in sight, you have to throw out a trap as quickly as possible and capture the villain with the proton beam and guide him into the trap. Teamwork is important here as the spirit can free itself from the radiator.
Who is the game suitable for?
Ghostbusters-Fans
Ghost hunter fans might have preferred a single player game, but in my opinion they still get their money's worth. The charm of the original is captured in a first-class way and you actually feel like Venkman, Ray, Winston or Spengler when you enter the iconic fire station (which serves as the main menu) or go ghost hunting with the PKE meter and proton beam.
Memories immediately come back to life at the iconic fire station.
Spirits Unleashed also tells a surprisingly entertaining story. You don't notice any of this in the matches, but there are always little cutscenes and conversations in between.
Cozy Halloween pumpkin heads
I love Halloween, but almost exclusively in its more cozy version. In October I watch Gravity Falls and Nightmare before Christmas and play titles like Cult of the Lamb, Dredge or Little Nightmares. And since 2022 also Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
The game is certainly not perfect, the missions are not optimally balanced and become repetitive relatively quickly. But I just enjoy making myself some tea (or a pumpkin spice latte), going ghost hunting with a few friends and chatting along the way. And thanks to PS Plus Extra, the servers will hopefully be a little fuller this year than last.
Have you tried Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed yet? How do you like the title?
