We, and probably you too, could probably spend hours discussing cartoon series and which of them are the best without coming to a unanimous conclusion. Fortunately, there are extensive databases such as IMDb (IinternetMovieDatabase), where virtually everyone can rate films, series, etc.
A rating is then created from this, with which the shows can be easily compared. Here we show you the top 10 cartoon series according to the IMDb rating, and we also introduce seven of them to you in more detail. Have fun!
Before we start:We decided to exclude the two series Bluey (9.3) and The Legend of Hanuman (9.1), which are actually in second and fourth place respectively. Bluey is designed for particularly young children and is therefore of little interest to the vast majority of our readers. The Legend of Hanuman, on the other hand, is currently only available in India and in Indian and is therefore out. Of course we still wanted to mention them.
Now to the top 10:
- 10.South Park (IMDb-Rating: 8,7)
- 9.Die Simpsons (IMDb-Rating: 8,7)
- 8.Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake (IMDb-Rating: 8,8)
7. X-Men '97
- First broadcast:2024
- The episode:10 in one season
- Available at:Disney+
- IMDb-Rating:8,8
Contrary to what the title suggests, X-Men '97 is not from 1997. However, it is the continuation of the X-Men series, which ended in 1997. The show begins after the death of Professor Charles Xavier and follows some of the X-Men on their adventures. The first season appeared in 2024; It is still unclear whether there will be a second one.
6. BoJack Horseman
- First broadcast:2014
- The episode:77 in 6 seasons
- Available at:Netflix
- IMDb-Rating:8,8
If you're in a too good mood one day, all you have to do is watch a few episodes of BoJack Horseman and things will often change very quickly. The Netflix production, with its talking animals and bizarre characters, seems at first glance like a “classic” comedy series, but quickly turns out to be a real drama. Cartoon characters have rarely developed in such a comprehensible way and we have not forgotten certain moments even after years. A well-deserved place in the top 10!
5. Welcome to Gravity Falls
- First broadcast:2012
- The episode:40 in 2 seasons
- Available at:Disney+
- IMDb-Rating:8,9
In just two seasons, the Disney series Welcome to Gravity Falls fires off such a firework of good ideas that as a viewer you basically can't help but long for more after the fantastic finale. Numerous paranormal events occur in the sleepy town of Gravity Falls, which the twins Dipper and Mabel investigate. For us it belongs to Halloween like Santa Claus and Co. KG belongs to Christmas!
4. Batman
- First broadcast:1992
- The episode:109 in 3 seasons
- Available at:only for purchase
- IMDb-Rating:9,0
The Batman animated series from the 1990s is considered by many fans of the Bat-Man to be one of, if not the best adaptation of the comics. The Dark Knight is portrayed here in a similar way to the films by Tim Burton that had recently been released. For a cartoon series of this time, Batman was unusually dark and the depiction of violence was not necessarily typical. But it was definitely worth it, because the series is still considered an absolute superhero classic today.
3. Arcane
- First broadcast:2021
- The episode:18 in 2 seasons
- Available at:Netflix
- IMDb-Rating:9,0
It was clear from the first trailer released that the Arcane series, set in the League of Legends universe, could be a real hit. The style of the show is unique and appeals to many viewers who actually have nothing to do with the game. But how good the show would actually be wasn't really foreseeable. Arcane has rightly received countless awards, including several Emmys, and has already ended its season.
2. Rick and Morty
- First broadcast:2013
- The episode:71 in 7 seasons
- Available at:Netflix
- IMDb-Rating:9,1
Of course, Community fans already knew what series creator Dan Harmon was capable of before Rick and Morty started. Hardly any other series knows how to combine pop culture allusions and homages so well with an entertaining story and a good portion of crude humor. Rick and Morty is already cult and certain episodes are without question considered absolute classics in the history of the series. There is no end in sight and seasons eight, nine and ten have already been ordered.
1. Avatar - The Lord of the Elements
- First broadcast:2005
- The episode:61 in 3 seasons
- Available at:Netflix
- IMDb-Rating:9,3
And with that, first place is confirmed. According to the IMDb users, this goes to Avatar: The Last Airbender! The adventures of Aang, Katara, Sokka and Co. simply offer the best entertainment and are worth an unreserved recommendation. It's not for nothing that Netflix only launched a live-action adaptation of the show this year. The follow-up series The Legend of Korra is also rated well on IMDb with 8.3 and can be watched immediately afterwards.
