Yesterday there was one on RedditAMA (Ask Me Anything)totook place in which some developers from the community answered questions. When the decisions of the upcoming action role-playing game were addressed, Ubisoft also revealed a completely new mode for the series in the response.
New mode: Less role-playing, more canon
As part of the AMA, Redditor Demetrius96 asked, among other things, what role dialogue options will play in comparison to AC Odyssey. As Ubisoft's creative director Jonathan Dumont revealed, decisions have less of an impact on the main story than they did in Odyssey:
"As far as choices go, they are there and some have consequences, but they play a less branching role than Odyssey in the core narrative. Choices play a larger role in recruiting allies and starting a romance with some characters."
Dumont not only classified the scope of the decisions, but also revealed the completely new canon mode in this context:
Since the fan community is divided on branching dialogue, we have included an option called CANON MODE, which allows you to play the game with decisions already made, giving you a decision-free experience. Hopefully everyone enjoys this.
The canon mode not only makes decisions for us, but also makes exactly those that Ubisoft considers canon. The mode thus removes an essential role-playing game element, but instead offers us the classic story of AC Shadows as it belongs to the official lore.
Basically, canon mode is optional. However, Dumont did not reveal whether we have to select it directly at the start of the game or whether we can also activate or deactivate it freely during the course of the game.
The canon mode not only increases the replay value, but is above all a great extra for all fans who value the canon. After all these years of games, novels, comics and more, canon continues to be an important point of discussion in the Assassin's Creed community. Ubisoft is now accommodating you with this mode.
InFor example, we have to choose whether we want to play Alexios or Kassandra. There are also several different endings, some of which depend on the choices made.
If we want to experience the story of Odyssey in a way that fits the lore, we not only have to choose Kassandra, but also use guides on the Internet to find the right decisions ourselves. A Canon mode would have helped in the past.
Assassin's Creed Shadows was originally scheduled to be released on November 15, 2024, but was postponed to February 14, 2025. The fourth part of the AC action role-playing games is coming to the PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
What is your opinion on the new mode? Will you use it?
