The four housesare likely to represent the dwellings of the players in the original. In fact, they look quite similar to them, right down to the colors of the roofs, the stones on the ground and the message board is even there too.
This perfects the allusion, that the small train that drives through the area looks pretty much the same as it did in the first Animal Crossing game. This Reddit user with a good eye for the little details noticed all of this:
