After numerous rumors about an Xbox handheld, Phil Spencer has now actually confirmed such plans. A handheld from Microsoft will still be a long time coming.
In the past few weeks and months, speculation and rumors about a possible handheld from Microsoft have been gaining momentum - and now corresponding plans have been confirmed. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has now confirmed that Microsoft is actually working internally on an Xbox handheld.
This comes from a fresh interview byBloombergwith Spencer out. There, the Xbox boss confirmed that the company is currently working on various prototypes of an Xbox handheld and has initiated internal processes as to whether and how such a product can be implemented.
According to Spencer, "the internal expectation is that we will do something along these lines"; So things are obviously pretty good in terms of planning for an Xbox handheld. However, given the internal status of the planning and development work, a release is unlikely to occur for the time being; this is probably still a long time away. Accordingly, Spencer also points out that it will probably be a few years before an Xbox handheld sees the light of day.
There have been rumors about such a product for several months. In the context of a next-gen home console that is also expected, the renowned insider Jez Corden reported in March 2024,. As a result, the rumor popped up several more times and Spencer's earlier statements in this regard were also heard- and now this fact is actually officially documented.
