Ubisoft apparently dares to take a new attempt in the Battle Royale genre-and apparently uses Apex Legends.
According to a new report by the renowned insider Tom Henderson by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is currently working on a new Battle Royale title. It is said to have been in the works for several years, is named "Scout" internally and is said to be inspired by Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment on a large scale. The inspiration even goes so far that Apex Legends should have been used as a thumbnail for the project.
Henderson continues to report that "Scout" should really be "very similar" to the success title Apex Legends from Respawn Entertainment and also relies on different hero characters. Some of them are directly based on the Apex characters Pathfinder, Wraith, Lifeline and more.
A source said about the project: "I think the goal is to benefit from the falling number of players at APEX. She [meant the leading days at Ubisoft] think that there is room for another Hero-Battle Royale on the market."
Nevertheless, the work on such a game is very amazed, after all, Ubisoft's own market research department in internal memos came to the conclusion that the Battle Royale genre is rather stagnating and tends to be on the descending branch. Therefore, the question was asked: "What comes to Battle Royale?" After the number of players decreased in Apex Legends and other genre representatives.
Even EA sees Apex Legends more critical in the meantime. CEO Andrew Wilson admitted that the title financially no longer achieved the goals that are considered necessary by the company. The pressure on the upcoming big update called Apex Legends 2.0 is therefore great, since this update must tear the rudder around.
For Ubisoft it would be "scout" - if it is actually published - not the first trip to the genre. As early as 2020, Hyperspace tried in the Battle Royale market, but pulled the plug again 18 months after the release. Internally, it is said that Ubisoft is said to have stamped around a dozen Battle Royale projects in the meantime.
