The stealth action series Splinter Cell was actually supposed to be made into a film, but unfortunately this adaptation has now finally been scrapped.
The stealth action series Splinter Cell from Ubisoft is known to be waiting for its long-awaited video game comeback in the form of a major remake. In addition, the franchise should have caused a sensation in the form of a film, but unfortunately nothing will come of that. The film, which was supposed to star Tom Hardy, was finally canceled, according to one of the producers.
This step doesn't come as a complete surprise, as the film was originally announced a whopping 12 (!) years ago, but the actual implementation hasn't really progressed. Therefore, producer Basil Iwanyk was now asked about the current status of Splinter Cell.
OppositeThe DirectIwanyk subsequently confirms that the film adaptation will no longer see the light of day. Reason: they “didn’t get it right”.
"The movie would have been really stunning... but we just couldn't get it right script-wise and budget-wise. But other than that it would have been really great. We had a million different versions and it would have been hard and great become," says Iwanyk.
According to current planning, the remake of the first video game Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is expected to come onto the market in 2026.
On the 20th anniversary of the stealth action series, Ubisoft is taking a look back and into the future when it comes to the Splinter Cell series.
