Love and sex have always played a role in the Witcher series, but the new The Witcher IV is supposed to put the crown on it all.
Anyone who has played the role-playing games in the The Witcher series from CD Projekt RED knows that romantic options have always played a role in the titles. The recently officially announced The Witcher IV is set to take things up a notch in this regard and go beyond the previously fairly short models and options between A and B.
As the creators, Sebastian Kalemba, have now confirmed in an interview, love and sex will not be integrated into the new series part just for the sake of the option, just to have the topic covered. Rather, romantic options should play a deeper and more important role in the future.
As a reminder: In The Witcher 3 you could already enter into romantic relationships with some characters. The most important decision was to be made between Yennefer and Triss, but there was also a brief hint of romance with the new protagonist Ciri, who was previously a more supporting character in The Witcher 3.
In the new The Witcher IV, Kalemba now promises that the romantic choices will be “very meaningful.” Specifically, he said on the topic of romance, love and sex: "It's part of how we make games. It's part of human nature. It's a very normal thing. Without that, I don't think we would be able to do the story "We want to give the subject a lot of attention and make it compelling and very meaningful. We don't want to incorporate romance just for the sake of romance."
So we can be curious to see who and to what extent the new protagonist Ciri will be able to enter into relationships in the upcoming The Witcher IV.
CD Projekt RED officially announced The Witcher IV at the Game Awards with a long cinematic trailer.
