News - The Last of Us (HBO): Season 2 gets a new teaser and release period

At CES 2025, Sony and HBO released a teaser for the second season and specified the release period. Here you can find out when “The Last of Us” will continue.

The series adaptation of The Last of Us from Naughty Dog hit like a bomb at its time. Viewers came in droves and the reviews were excellent - so it's no wonder that season 2 is so eagerly awaited. At the CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Sony and HBO made a point at a press conference.

Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog, co-creator, screenwriter and executive producer of the series on the US broadcaster HBO, announced at the Consumer Electronics Show as part of the Sony keynote that the second season will start in April 2025. To date there has only been general talk of spring 2025, but now there is clarity regarding the month.

In addition, a new teaser clip for the second season, almost a minute long, was released, which you can watch below and which provides first impressions of the continued setting after season 1.

The plot of Season 2 takes place five years after that of Season 1 as the past catches up with Joel and Ellie. This leads to conflicts between the two protagonists. The story is essentially based on The Last of Us: Part II, but - unlike Season 1 - will not cover the entire game. Nevertheless, one of the video game's most iconic scenes will probably be seen in the new episodes.

Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie return to the cast, as do Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members for Season 2 include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabeal Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Sony and HBO have released a teaser for the second season of “The Last of Us” and confirmed April 2025 as the start date.
