Two successful games, a successful series relay and the second season on the way ... But for a third game, the chances are currently rather poorly according to Neil Druckmann.
The two parts of The Last of Us are certainly one of the highlights of the newer Playstation generations and the success of the series is in no way inferior, especially since the second season with huge steps is on the move. In the meantime, the rumors have been around a third game for some time, but according to the current statements by Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann, the chances are not that well.
The story of the game was basically designed for a third part, it sounds about Variety quite differently. "I think the only thing I would say is that there will probably be no continuation of Last of Us. It could have been," Druckmann told the magazine.
In the past, Druckmann had not excluded a third part and his statements sounded optimistic that he already had a concept, but has not yet had a real story in his head. But now the mastermind has apparently made a back behind the title.
After all, from April 13th, at least the second season of the HBO series, which will devote itself entirely to the story of the second game, which - according to previous statements - may be significantly more than just one season. "It feels like we still have one or two seasons [after the second] in front of us," said Showrunner Craig Mazin. "It is getting more and more difficult because every episode is a success. You don't want to follow 17 or wait four years."
After the immense take place by Uncharted and The Last of Us, it is unclear what Naughty Dog is currently working on. A The Last of Us III seemed certain that the planned multiplayer offshoot was stepped into the bin. The announced sci-fi title Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Schein still foster, even if it has been screwed on it since 2020.
