Rumors about a Steam Deck 2 are currently making the rounds online, but Valve is now clearly denying these.
Companies often don't even take a position on the numerous rumors and speculations on the internet, but not Valve. The developer and hardware manufacturer was now apparently forced to clearly deny current rumors about a Steam Deck 2.
Where do the rumors come from? These originate from the website VideoCardz.com, which is basically dedicated to the specifications of the new processors in the AMD Ryzen Z2 series. From then on, it was mentioned in this article that Valve's Steam Deck would be a recipient of this processor, which is why there was a lot of speculation about a successor model in the form of the Steam Deck 2.
— Pierre-Loup Griffais (@plagman.bsky.social)January 6, 2025 at 2:02 p.mThere is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. Guessing the slide was meant to say the series is meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific.
Pierre-Loup Griffais, a Valve employee, subsequently felt compelled to make a statement via the social media service BlueSky to set the story straight: "There is and will not be a Z2 Steam Deck. I assume The slideshow was meant to indicate that this (processor) series is intended for products like the Steam Deck, without wanting to announce anything specific."
Griffais could be right with this opinion, after all, the website also named the Legion GO and the Asus ROG Ally as potential buyers for the new AMD processor; These two PC handhelds had previously used the AMD Z1 processors.
From November 16th you can order the new Steam Deck OLED model from Valve.
