When Elon Musk tweets, despite all the absurdity, it at least has something of a scary entertainment value and now he has discovered the gaming industry as a target for himself.
Elon Musk is certainly not one of the reserved or even quiet people, quite the opposite. The richest person in the world, with a net worth of $244.9 billion, spills whatever's on his mind on X, the remnants of the once-beloved Twitter.
Aside from supporting his favorite buddy Trump, he has now set his sights on something else, namely video games.
“There are too many game studios owned by large companies,” writes Musk. "xAI will create an AI games studio to make games great again!", based on Donald's MAGA slogan.
Musk's tirade was in response to Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus saying he "doesn't understand how game developers and journalists could be so ideologically captured." Especially given that gamers have "always rejected stupid manipulative bullshit and can tell when someone is an outsider poser."
The absurdity of Musk's statement jumps out at you, because xAI is already a huge company that runs GROK-3, an AI model that is based on over 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs and is constantly being expanded.
Nevertheless, as you might guess, Musk's statement is receiving a lot of support, especially from the anti-woke corner. However, it is questionable whether anything will come of Musk's idea. Other “big players” have already cut their teeth on game development, see Amazon and Google. That being said, real gamers certainly have no problem rejecting AI-generated games.
