News - Shadow of the Colossus : Fresh update: The film project is still alive!

For a long time there was silence about the film adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus, but the project is still alive. The director now released a fresh update on the current status.

One could have forgotten that a film adaptation of the former Sony flagship series Shadow of the Colossus is being considered, after all, this was originally confirmed by Sony in 2009. After the project had been quiet for so long, one could have assumed that it had been discontinued - but that is not the case.

Argentinian director Andy Muschietti, known for the remakes of “It” and “The Flash,” among others, has finally commented on the Sony Pictures film. Muschietti wasn't involved in the project from the start, but took over as director from Josh Trank due to scheduling issues.

In a radio broadcast, Muschietti confirmed that the film was not a “disused project in any way.” Although the planning and development period for the film has now lasted for so many years, no cancellation has taken place, even if fans could naturally have believed it due to the time factor.

"There are factors that have nothing to do with your hobby and the desire to make it happen, but with how popular an IP like this is," continues Muschelki. Due to the sheer scale, the project's budget is still being discussed. But he personally already has a favorite among the existing scripts.

When we can expect production of the film for Shadow of the Colossus remains to be seen. After all: a sign of life, that's something, right?

Fumito Ueda, the creator of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian, has finally debuted his latest project in a teaser clip under the working title Project: Robot.
