Palworld, one of the first hype titles from the beginning of the gaming year, is set to take off again thanks to the extensive Feybreak update.
Palworld was certainly one of THE stories of the video game year 2024. At the beginning there was a real hype about the game, which attracted over 2 million gamers at the same time, but early on there were accusations of plagiarism that the title was already heavily copied from Pokémon. That's why Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have now filed a lawsuit for trademark infringement.
In terms of gameplay, the aforementioned hype about Palworld continued to flatten out over the course of the year and the number of players fell noticeably - but now Palworld is reaching new heights thanks to the recently published Feybreak update. The big content patch apparently brings players back to the survival title, which is suddenly back in the top 10 most played titles on Steam.
The Feybreak update is attracting tens of thousands of gamers back to the game after it was released on December 23rd, just before Christmas. Just one day later, the peak number of simultaneous gamers on Steam rose to 136,000 - but that was just the beginning. In the last 24 hours, the peak value in this category was loudSteamDBnow already with 212,817 gamers at the same time.
Or to put it another way: the number of players in Palworld has not been this high since the beginning of March 2024. Even the mark of 100,000 gamers at the same time was last broken on Steam in June 2024 - back then shortly after the Sakurajima update, which still turned out to be nowhere near as successful as the Feybreak update.
However, it is unclear how Palworld's player numbers on consoles have developed since the update was released. At least in the PlayStation Store the title is not listed in the top 10 most played PlayStation games and the title is not in the “Most Played” section on the Xbox either.
Incidentally, it is currently not clear what will happen to Palworld in 2025. Developer PocketPair has not yet published a roadmap with planned content - and the aforementioned legal dispute with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company still needs to be clarified.
With Feybreak, Palworld is receiving a major new content update.
