The leaks about the Switch 2 continue to grow: new renderings are supposed to show the console, and there are also further hardware details.
Nintendo could slowly just redeem us and get things done, but the Switch 2 hasn't been officially announced yet. Accordingly, we have to continue to be content with leaks - and they are now literally overflowing.
Among other things, new 360-degree renderings have now appeared online, which are intended to show the new Nintendo console in greater detail than ever before. These come from the leaker91mobilesand made the rounds via social media service X. These renderings also address some of the latest rumors surrounding the console, including that the new Joy-Cons could have an optical sensor, which would enable a mouse-like function. You can also see additional buttons that are not available on the current Switch. However, it is not completely clear to what extent the renderings actually correspond to the final product.
The accessories manufacturer Genki had previously made a name for itself at CES 2025 in Las Vegas when it presented its own products for the upcoming Switch 2 and even put a replica of the new Nintendo console in the hands of trade fair visitors.
Shortly afterwards, Genki's CEO, Eddie Tsai, went even further and freely "confirmed" some of the platform's technical features that had previously been making the rounds in the rumor mill. OppositeThe VergeHe explained that the console's Joy-Cons will now actually be magnetic; Using a button, an extendable pin should help to remove the Joy-Cons from the housing.
The Genki CEO also mentioned the optical sensor mentioned above - and thus also the possible mouse functionality of the controller. Regarding the thickness of the Switch 2, he explains that despite its greater height and width, the Switch 2 would still be thin enough to fit into the current dock; However, this would ultimately be prevented by other features of the Switch 2.
Meanwhile, another leak via GameStop suggests that the Switch 2 will support microSD Express cards. This emerged from SKUs at the retailer and from then on made the rounds on Reddit. Such microSD cards have capacities of 256GB to 512GB and would significantly simplify storage management on the Switch 2. This also means that significantly higher data transfer rates would be possible. UHS-I microSD cards on the Switch allow a theoretical maximum of 140 MB/s, with microSD Express in the Switch 2 up to 985 MB/s would be possible.
