Microsoft's Phil Spencer has reiterated in a new interview that more Xbox first-party games will also appear on competing platforms in the future. The adopted multi-platform strategy will therefore be continued with conviction.
Last year, Microsoft caused a stir when it announced its new multiplatform strategy, which will bring numerous Xbox exclusive games to competing platforms such as the PlayStation 5 or the Nintendo Switch 2. If you still had doubts that Microsoft might not follow through on the matter rigorously, Xbox boss Phil Spencer now has some pretty clear words ready.
The CEO of Microsoft Gaming made the comments in a recent interviewGamertag Radioon various topics, including the multiplatform strategy - and this will be continued with vehemence. Even though die-hard Xbox fans might be disappointed that the in-house Xbox brands will also be playable elsewhere in the future, Spencer himself believes that the multiplatform approach is a good thing.
"We love our platform and our hardware, but we won't put up walls where players can enjoy the great games our studios create. Our games will appear in more and more places, there's no doubt about that!" said Spencer pretty clear.
According to Spencer, “every developer out there” wants to create games that reach as many players as possible. And even if competing consoles like the PlayStation or the Nintendo Switch may still follow the paradigm of console exclusivity, he wants to continue to break down these conventions with the Xbox.
Microsoft had initiated the multiplatform strategy with the titles Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. In the meantime, the new approach is also being adopted by larger franchises, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and, in the future, DOOM: The Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2. The latter two titles will also be appearing on the PlayStation 5 from day one this year .
